When You Need This Test

Avuncular testing (Aunt/Uncle testing) is used to determine if a child is related to the alleged father's siblings. This is an excellent alternative when the father is deceased or unwilling to test.

Paternal Aunt/Uncle

Testing the alleged father's full brother or sister against the child to establish paternity indirectly.

Maternal Aunt/Uncle

Testing the mother's siblings to confirm maternity in cases where the mother is unavailable (e.g., adoption/immigration).

Deceased Father

When the alleged father has passed away and direct paternity testing is not possible.

Immigration Cases

Proving family relationships for visa applications and immigration proceedings.

Common Questions

Can I test with a half-sibling of the father?

It is possible but significantly reduces the accuracy of the test. We strongly recommend testing with a full sibling of the alleged parent whenever possible.

Is the mother required?

Including the mother is highly recommended. Her DNA helps the lab filter out the maternal genetic markers, making the comparison with the aunt/uncle much more precise.

Can this test prove paternity?

It provides a statistical probability of relationship, which can strongly indicate paternity. However, it is an indirect test. If the father is available, a direct Paternity Test is always the best option.
